FOR HUM 2250-363331:
Dear course members,
As I have indicated I would like to provide you with an extra credit opportunity for this Spring Term.
We have discussed acts of non-compliance and resistance against Nazism and Fascism in Europe in this course, in particular as they relate to the Spanish Civil War. One of topics we have only addressed marginally is the role of women in this resistance against Hitler's and Franco's dictatorships and the wars they waged. Here, we find females in various positions in the resistance, ranging from distributing leaflets in Nazi Germany against Hitler to partisans in the Soviet Union who decided to defy the invaders.
In this context I would like you to identify a female resistance fighter who was involved in open or clandestine actions against Hitler or Franco and their armies. This would include but limited to resistance in Germany, the occupied territories of France, Belgium, Holland, Norway, Denmark, Poland as well as in the battlefields of the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, or even Africa.
For the extra credit I ask for (a) a short biography of the female resistance fighter and (b) a critical assessment of how today's society commemorates their merits, e.g. are there films that bring their story to life and educate the audience. You will have to do some research but I believe that this is an exciting assignment.
As you realize hardly anybody had heard of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade and it was a film that brought story their story to you.
Your essay should be about 300 words long. I am willing to increase your total average for this class by up to 5% for stellar work, e..g. this would bring a 87 (B) up to a 92 (A).
Please email me our essay by 04/27/12 at 11.59PM and put "HUM2250-363331-Extra Credit" into the subject line.
I will be offering a HUM2020 course on "Women's Resistance against Nazism and Fascism in Film and Literature" (369562) on T, R 06:00-07.35PM this Summer Term.
You can also call this assignment up at my blogpot as all FSCJ IT services will be down for Spring Break.
